Review: Gilmore Girls – Season 1, Episode 14 “That Damn Donna Reed”

In this episode Floppy Hair walks face first into the landmine that is the gender wars. Rory and Lorelai get a lot of joy out of watching Donna Reed be the perfect 50s mother. By “joy” i mean “they have a lot of fun ripping that shit apart.” Floppy says, “Maybe we should bring back the 50s when women needed their husband’s permission to have their own bank account!” Lorelai and Rory look at him like this:

Review: Gilmore Girls – Season 1, Episode 13 “Concert Interruptus”

Episode 13! Halfway through the first season, baby!

I was listening to the Gilmore Guys podcast and they mentioned there are 153 episodes. 153? Do you know I’ll never be done reviewing this show unless I step up my game?

Lorelai is running the town rummage sale, meaning her house looks like an episode of Hoarders. Luke drops off some stuff, including a bag of clothes, and Lorelai immediately gravitates toward the tackiest thing in his clothing bag. This woman loves rhinestones more than most drag queens.

Bianca Del Rio – Greatest RuPaul’s Drag Race winner of all time. (Yes, I HAVE watched all 7 seasons as they’ve aired.)

Review: Gilmore Girls – Season 1, Episode 12 “Double Date”

What is with this show and the band XTC? In episode 2, Lane came running over with the new XTC CD held aloft. In the cold open for this episode, we’re treated to a “getting ready in the morning” montage set to XTC’s “Earn Enough For Us”. Were the creators friends with this band? Were they in this band? Did they feel bad because this band cursed itself with the name XTC?

“Get it? X. T.C? Like the drug? Or like that feeling when you’re really enjoying sex? But mostly like the drug?”

(Also – that cover is from their album White Music. This works very well with the Gilmore Girls because if I were to say “There are like 4 people of color on this show!” it would be EXTREMELY GENEROUS.)

Review: Gilmore Girls – Season 1, Episode 9 “Rory’s Dance”

Rory’s Rich Kid School is holding a formal to save the spotted owl or horned owl or screech owl. As long as this dance isn’t raising funds for poor people, we’re ok!

Rory doesn’t want to go to the dance because she saw Sixteen Candles once and it scarred her for life. This is understandable. Lorelai talks her into it and tells Rory to bring Floppy Hair, who has been hanging out in their trees. So I guess Floppy is a spotted owl?

Thank God. I thought it was one of those filthy poors.
