We start this episode off with Rory bringing some laundry home to Stars Hollow. Apparently the show forgot that her grandparents gifted her a Prius at graduation, because she’s not driving one here. We know because it’s missing the distinctive “stinkbug ass” of all first-gen Priuses.
More importantly, Rory cut her hair! And it’s cute!
Wow. That’s a sign of how little can happen in these cold opens – I’m excited over a haircut and trying to be witty when referring to a Prius.
It’s “Shopping Week” at Yale which sounds like a completely made up thing that only exists on television. I Googled – It’s not! It’s REAL!!
Rory’s picked over 50 classes to try out, which sounds ridiculous because according to that link, you have to keep up with the reading/homework for any of the classes you shop. (Also – what about prerequisites? Do those just exist for us poors?)
How much would it cost for textbooks for 50 Ivy League classes? With Lorelai buying Rory all the hip trendy things out of the Young & Hip catalogue, and Rory’s 8 trillion textbooks, it’s like the girls are rolling in money like 1980s Wall Street bankers.
MONEY FIGHT!!!!
The girls have told Lane that she can use their garage as a practice space. Yay! Now Lane doesn’t have to think up exactly 18 million lies excuses to tell her super strict mother about why she’s out of the house and why she smells like boys and band equipment. There’s a problem, though. The garage would be at home on this show:
Hopefully they have fewer flat cats buried under trash.
It’s Winter Carnival time again in Stars Hollow and this means Lane will be manning a booth to solicit donations for the marching band. She’ll also be practicing with her OTHER band in Lorelai’s garage. Lorelai gives Lane the practice space if she promises not to pose nude on the cover of Rolling Stone. Rolling Stone shows nothing – she’d be better off asking Lane not to send nudes to her boyfriend via text.
This episode opens with Luke having a conniption fit because a bunch of parents with young kids have decided to hang out in his diner. There are babies and trains that don’t work and…OMG..BREAST FEEDING.
We begin this episode with Lane excited about band practice and Lorelai having premonitions about her own death. She had a dream about being eaten by a turtle and her face swings to the back of her head. Since Lorelai is not actually going to die we can ignore most of this cold open.
The episode begins and we’ve jumped ahead a few days (? I think?). Rory’s wrist is still in a cast, Broody is still gone, and Lorelai won’t tell Rory what happened between her and Luke the night of the accident. Lorelai and Rory walk to Luke’s to discover that he’s closed up and “gone fishing.” Rory thinks this is because Lorelai and Luke had a fight, Lorelai is all “nuh uh! LA LA LA! NOT LISTENING”
